Treaties Recognition Week was introduced in 2016 to honor the importance of treaties and to help Ontarians learn more about treaty rights and treaty relationships. Treaties Recognition Week is observed on the week beginning on the first Sunday in November in each year.
We have prepared Grade 11 & 12 Resources for Treaties Recognition Week 2022.
The following resources from the official website of the Government of Ontario provide information about the importance of treaties, treaty relationships and rights in Ontario, and about events related to Treaties Recognition Week.
Historical Canada’s Treaties in Canada Education Guide covers a wide range of topics for educators to discuss with their students including Indigenous peoples' oral traditions, a historical timeline of treaties in Canada, a case study featuring Treaty No. 9 and the Idle No More movement.
